Wall Street Journal (May 8) “ProfNet Roundup: 2013 Commencement Speakers” Ted Kennedy Jr., a lawyer and advocate for people with disabilities, will be the keynote speaker at the morning commencement ceremony of the University of New Haven at the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre on Sunday, May 19. Kennedy will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the ceremony, which starts at 10 a.m. A second ceremony at 3 p.m. will feature a commencement address delivered by Sen. Christopher Murphy (D-Conn.), who will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. UNH is awarding 37 associate degrees, 760 bachelor's degrees and 388 master's degrees at the May 19 ceremonies.

Leave it to those engineers to make canoes from concrete
South Coast Today April 28 “Leave it to those engineers to make canoes from concrete” UNH student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers converged upon Apponagansett Park Saturday with their concrete canoes to participate in the New England Regional Concrete Canoe Competition. The competition required students to submit design papers and give an oral presentation on the construction before a team of judges. Students filled their boat to make sure it does not sink before starting out on the Concrete Canoe competition hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Padilla came to the U.S. from Ecuador at age 7 and is studying to be a civil engineer.
