As the Biochemistry and Biotechnology degree advisor I focus on improving the student learning experience, and providing a strong preparation for a career in research or the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Student-centered learning is the core of my teaching philosophy, and I use multiple approaches to optimize the student experience in my classes. I focus on teaching important core content using process skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork. My classes incorporate POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Enquiry Learning) with lectures, clickers, case studies, Tegrity (recording my classes), peer tutoring and problem based learning. I foster direct interaction with local pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to maximize experiential learning for my students. My research interests center on G protein coupled receptor signal transduction systems.
