About Alicia

I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. I have six years of teaching experience, and I am currently employed as a teacher for the Cheshire public school system.

Why did you choose UNH and what attracted you to your graduate program?

Upon visiting the campus, I saw a wonderful environment and a community of learners. UNH provides an outstanding education program that is flexible to the working professional seeking a graduate degree. I chose the professional education program because it allows the students to learn the most current teaching techniques through a rigorous and specialized program.

How have your experiences at UNH helped prepare you for your desired career path?

My graduate program has helped me maintain a current knowledge base of teaching strategies, instruction techniques, assessment tools, research methods and state-of-the-art instruction materials. It has allowed me to continue to shape my teaching to meet the needs of my students. In addition, the personalized program has afforded me the opportunity to use my new knowledge to develop practical units and materials to incorporate into my classroom.

Tell us about a memorable hands-on learning experience such as a class project, applied research or an internship that you have participated in.

One of several memorable classes was my curriculum design course. I had the opportunity to work with an outstanding professor who challenged us and inspired some of the most engaging and interesting class discussions. One of the biggest takeaways was when we learned the most current changes within curriculum standards in our schools. The cumulative project within this course was extremely relevant and insightful.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I plan to continue working in the profession that I love. I will continue to strive to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that instills a love of learning and the belief that with hard work any student can accomplish their dreams. I believe teaching is an incredibly important profession, and I am honored to have the opportunity to impact the lives of my students.
