Alumna Story: Keela Parsons, '14
Recent Graduate from the Education, Teacher Certification Program
"The Graduate Education Program here at UNH provided me with an invaluable experience. I chose to do an internship, where I worked for a year at Tolland High School. The knowledge and real world skills I acquired while completing my internship have proven incredibly helpful in my career. When it came time to student teach, I applied what I previously learned and felt comfortable in a classroom setting. My cooperating teacher said it was evident that my internship experience had given me a leg up on working in a school, and was able to help me further improve my pedagogy. I learned so much in my classes, and my professors were always willing to go that extra mile for me. Between my coursework and internship experience, I was ready to take on any challenges that were thrown my way. I also feel that this program better prepared me to be a successful teacher because I was exposed to numerous strategies, methods, and veteran educators. This combination gave me a strong foundation I could rely on when tough situations arose in the classroom. After finishing this program, I felt very prepared for the world of teaching and I cannot wait to see where my career takes me. I'm currently teaching eighth grade science at Tolland Middle School as a long term substitute."
