Our Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter holds regular meetings with scheduled programs designed to help members learn more about HR and the real world of business. Elected student officers run the chapter with the assistance of a faculty advisor and sponsoring of professional SHRM chapter members (The Human Resource Association of Greater New Haven is the name of the local SHRM chapter that sponsors us). UNH SHRM has won the Superior Merit Award from SHRM for the last 15 years in a row.
Each year we invite local business professionals to speak to graduate and undergraduate students interested in HR about current developments in the business world and how they will impact future workers. Beyond the regular meetings and guest speaker events we organize a variety of activities including company tours, career coaching workshops, community service projects and social events to help members build developmental relationships with HR professionals.
SHRM National has acknowledged our chapter for the outstanding job of providing opportunities for growth and development of our members over the years. Even though student officers are typically from HR related programs in the College of Business or students in the graduate Industrial-Organizational Psychology program, all students at UNH are welcome to participate as members and/or chapter leaders. All students will find something to gain from being a part of UNH SHRM.
