Seven exceptional students have been nominated to represent University of New Haven at the 2014 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in the following categories: acting, musical theater, and design.
ActingAs recognition for their outstanding performances in the Theater Program's Spring 2013 production of Into the Woods, directed by Heather Reba; three students were nominated by Festival respondents to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship: James Zap ('13) for the role of the Baker, Taylor Schwieger ('13) for the role of the Baker's Wife, and Amanda Sigan ('16) for the role of the Witch. Festival alternates include Tyler Prigionieri ('15) for the role of Jack, and Leann Boisvert ('15) for the role of Narrator.
Musical TheaterSamantha Bowers ('16), who played Cinderella in Into the Woods, was nominated to participate in the Musical Theater Initiative, which showcases student's acting talent through song.
DesignHeather Konish ('15), who was the student set designer for Into the Woods, has been recommended for participation in the Design Expo at the festival, which is an opportunity for her to join fellow student designers and showcase her work on a regional scale.
Respondents for the Kennedy Center include the highest caliber of college and university level theater instructors from throughout Region One (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Northeast New York - NYC, Rhode Island, Vermont). The Region One festival will take place in January of 2014 and will also include students who will be nominated for their work on the Theater Program's Fall 2013 play, directed by Rachel Anderson-Rabern: The Secret in the Wings by Mary Zimmerman.
