It isn’t even past.” Oliver Wendell Holmes put history in a different context: “Every library should try to be complete on something, if it were only the history of pinheads.” But, whether it’s sublime or ridiculous, history has fascinated since history began. At UNH, our mission is to broaden your perspective by revealing the vast human experience in all its complexity.

That includes everything from the foreign policy of nations to your own contributions to the world. Our overarching mission is to integrate global perspectives into the program so that you can interpret rapidly changing international conditions and be poised to function within different cultures as you travel the globe.

Being a historian is a great asset in the fields of journalism, education, the government, and law. Our flexible program allows you to select a course of study related to your individual interests. With our generous number of electives, you can double-major or minor in another field; Combine your interest in history with professional training from our extensive range of professional programs; or, deepen your knowledge by continuing on to graduate study.
