Forming a Team
The easiest way to get involved in team sports is to form a team on your own: You and a couple of friends, the floor of your residence hall, classmates, or the neighbors in your apartment complex. Student organizations as well as other campus groups often put together teams. There are also many individuals on campus who want to participate in RECSports, but are new to the program, or unaware how to get involved. Introduce those individuals to the RECSports program by including them on your team. We have different competition levels to accommodate all athletes of different levels or experience. To find out how many players you will need for a complete team, browse through the sport's rules for that specific season.
How to Register
Once you have a team together you must designate a team manager, and register your team. The team manager will be your representative throughout the season. Each sport has its own registration period. To find out when that is for each sport, check our Intramural Sports schedule (link) for all four seasons. All registration will be done online through IMLeagues.
Mandatory Managers Meetings
Once you've registered a team, the designated manager MUST attend the mandatory managers meeting for the sport. The date, time, and place of the captains meeting can be found on this (schedule link). If a representative from your team does not attend the managers meeting, your team will be dropped from the league! The mangers meeting covers the sport's rules, eligibility requirements for your players, and other intramural policies and procedures. Before the season starts, all teams are responsible for an accountability fee that will be completed at the Managers Meeting. A team will be allowed one forfeit per season, which will cost the team $15 and it will be deducted from the credit/debit put on file by the team manager.
Regular Season Schedules & Team Rosters
Your entire regular season and playoff schedules can be found online at IMLeagues.com. On the night of your game, your team members should arrive at least 15 minutes early to sign-in at the game site. An University of New Haven I.D. is required for all participants: No I.D., no play. Teams can add players to their roster throughout the course of a season, but please note that once the team roster is filled, the team can only consist of players from the official RECSports team roster, and no more additions are possible. There are absolutely no additions possible during playoffs, and your roster must be finalized at least a week before your scheduled playoff game. Players can only play on ONE team at a time and once a player has joined a team he/she can NOT switch to another team. Be aware that your playoff status does not just take into account your regular season record, but your team’s overall sportsmanship throughout the entire season. More specific information is also available online in the RECSports Handbook.
