TeamREC (Student Employment)

The backbone of ChargerREC is TeamREC, our student employment program.  We only hire UNH students that truly want to be a part of our team and are dedicated to the success of the department.  The training and experiences gained through campus recreation employment contribute to lifelong success and excellence. 

ENTRY-LEVEL TEAMREC POSITIONS:

  • Facility Staff (Customer Service Attendants & Fitness Center Attendants)
  • Group Fitness Instructors & Personal Trainers
  • RECSports Officials
  • Creative Team

Positions are open to current University of New Haven undergraduate and graduate students.

Once hired as an entry level TeamREC member there are several opportunities for advancement and promotion.

TeamREC Mission

To provide an atmosphere of fun, respect, and responsibility in the workplace. Our student professionals must strive to deliver quality programs and services to all members. As a result, they will gain and develop leadership, social, and communication skills.   

  1. Facility Staff

    To be considered for a position, applicants must:

    • Attend a TeamREC Employment Information Session at one of these times:
      Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 7:30am
      Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 8:30pm
      Friday, February 3, 2017 at noon
      All Facility Staff Info Sessions are in the Beckerman Recreation Center.

    • Submit a typed application, cover letter, and resume by Friday February 10, 2017 at noon to the Welcome Desk at the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center. Applications can be found here. 

    Once applications are received, selected applicants will be contacted for first round interviews.

    Customer Service Attendant

    Job Responsibilities: Provide a welcoming environment to all members and guests; verify memberships; answer general program and facility questions and provide accurate information; complete transactions for memberships, program registrations, locker rentals and retail items; maintain equipment and retail inventory; complete general cleaning duties; follow and enforce all facility policies and procedures; complete necessary forms and checklists; assist in daily opening/closing of the facility; and assist with event set-up and break down.

    Job Qualifications: Dependable and able to work flexible hours; excellent customer service skills; strong reasoning, interpersonal, time management, and conflict resolution skills; positive attitude; willingness and ability to enforce policies; ability to operate cash register; basic computer skills; ability to complete several tasks at once with frequent interruption; CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred (training provided).

    Fitness Center Attendant

    Job Responsibilities: Provide supervision of Fitness Center and Weight room with specific attention to safety and risk management; follow and enforce all facility policies and procedures; clean and maintain equipment; spot members and guests when needed; complete necessary forms and checklists; serve as second responder to all facility emergencies; submit preventative work orders; assist in daily opening/closing of the facility; and assist with event set-up and break down.

    Job Qualifications: Dependable and able to work flexible hours; excellent customer service skills; strong reasoning, interpersonal, time management, and conflict resolution skills; positive attitude; willingness and ability to enforce policies; ability to lift 45 lbs.; ability to complete several tasks at once with frequent interruption; CPR/AED/First Aid certification required upon start of hire (training provided).

  2. RecSports Officials

    Applicants for RECSports Officials are required to attend various training sessions at the beginning of each season of this sport they wish to officiate. Dates for RECSports Fall 2015 Season 1 will be announced in mid-August.

    RECSports Official

    Job Responsibilities: Officiate and record score for various intramural team sports; participate in meetings/clinics, on-going training and evaluation process; assist with event set-up and break down; complete game sheets and reports as necessary.

    Job Qualifications: General understanding of sport-specific rules; dependable and  able to work flexible hours; strong reasoning, interpersonal, time management, and conflict resolution skills; willingness and ability to enforce policies; ability to complete several tasks at once with frequent interruption; positive attitude; CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred (training provided); experience officiating preferred.


  3. Instructors & Trainers

    Group Fitness Instructor

    Job Responsibilities: Instruct and lead GroupX classes; instruct to national and program standards; arrive prepared for class; stay current with latest program-specific curriculums and standards; welcome both experienced and novice participants; provide a safe and enjoyable experience to all participants.

    Job Qualifications: Current nationally-accredited group exercise certification (AFAA, ACSM,  ACE, NETA, etc.) required for specific program; Spinning instructors must possess a nationally accredited indoor cycling certificate (Mad Dogg, ACE, ACSM, Nautilus Institute, AFAA, Reaction, etc.); Yoga certification (Yoga Alliance, YogaFit, or AFAA Yoga), Pilates (Stott, NETA, AFAA Pilates, Mind Body Institute, etc.); positive attitude; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate with peers; dependable; able to work flexible hours; previous experience instructing preferred; CPR/AED/First Aid certification required (training provided). Prior to hire, applicants must audition with Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness.

    Personal Trainer

    Job Responsibilities: Instruct personal training clients and Small Group Training Programs; arrive prepared for sessions; schedule and perform administrative tasks associated with program; stay current with latest program-specific curriculums and standards; welcome both experienced and novice participants; provide a safe and enjoyable experience to all participants.

    Job Qualifications:  Current nationally-accredited personal training certification (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, NETA or NASM); positive attitude; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate with peers; dependable and  able to work flexible hours; previous experience as  a Personal Trainer preferred; CPR/AED/First Aid certification required (training provided). Prior to hire, applicants must audition with Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness.

  4. Creative Team

    To be considered for a position, applicants must:

    • Attend a TeamREC Employment Information Session at one of these times:
      Wednesday 2/3 at 7:15 am
      Thursday 2/4 at 8:30 pm
      Friday 2/5 at noon
    • Submit a typed application, cover letter, and resume by Friday 2/12 at noon to the Welcome Desk at the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center. Applications can be found here.

    Once applications are received, selected applicants will be contacted for first round interviews.

    Job responsibilities: Develop marketing materials and graphics for overall ChargerREC and individual program areas; update and maintain department website; photograph various department events and programs; other duties as assigned; assist in development and implementation of other marketing avenues (i.e. social media, street team, etc.).

    Job Qualifications: Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, LightRoom, or any other graphic website design or photography software; ability to work independently and as a team; ability to complete several tasks at once with frequent interruption; positive attitude; demonstrated ability to work independently; strong knowledge of all ChargerREC programs and services; dependable and  able to work flexible hours; strong reasoning, interpersonal, time management, and conflict resolution skills; strong ability to relate with peers; Willingness to adapt and embrace changes in implemented technologies; outstanding communication skills; dependable and able to work flexible hours; creative and outgoing personality; experience within department preferred; CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred (training provided).
