About

    Artist Statement

My work is the product of my desire to learn new processes and investigate how things are put together, unraveling and breaking elements down to re-imagine a new way of working. The representational objects I create, often appearing traditional in form, image and materiality, come about through my interest in advanced, emerging technological processes at odds with their original form or function. This indirect process makes it difficult for the viewer to trace the working methodology in the finished object.  It is therefore necessary for me to leave visual clues to the making in the finished work. Marks, notations, cuts that aid me in the process of making, are left apparent in the finish. My elaborate processes suggest a way of interpreting and working in the world. They speak to a stubborn willfulness to craft one’s own meaning and demonstrate the beauty of the absurd gesture.

I have rarely lived in one place for longer than one year and as a result, transportation, migration and adaptation are recurring themes.  The subject matter of my work is often autobiographical but whether discreet singular objects, gallery installations or public art projects, issues of travel and mobility recur.
