    Dr. Ward came to the University of New Haven in July 2008 with strong experience in academic and higher education administrative leadership positions.  From 2006 - June 2008 he was Associate Vice President for Research and Special Programs at Sam Houston State University. Dr. Ward also served as Dean of Criminal Justice at SHSU from 1999 - 2006. Previously he served as Associate Chancellor for Special Programs and Vice Chancellor for Administration at the University of Illinois, Chicago for 16 years.  In addition, Dr. Ward served as Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice from 1975 - 1977. Dr. Ward is a Charter of the Society of Police Futurists International. He is a former police officer and detective of the NYPD from 1962 - 1970.
