Morocco's Bountiful Perspectives: 

 Global Classrooms and Cultural Connections for the 21st Century Learners

Program Overview

The University of New Haven (UNH) “Global Classrooms and Cultural Connections for the 21st Century Learners: Morocco’s Bountiful Perspectives” program was developed under the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad (GPA) as a Short Term Seminar Project. This Fulbright-Hays GPA will immerse a group of 12 pre-service and practicing K-12 teachers and administrators in a four-week intensive study program in Morocco.

In addition to Modern Standard Arabic language instruction, which will be actively reinforced through the program, participants will benefit from a rich and comprehensive program covering topics on Moroccan culture, educational system, social life, political dynamics, history, Islam and Arab-Muslim civilization.  By the end of the project, participants will develop and distribute curriculum materials to their schools and districts. 

 

Key Program Features

  • Formal academic training in Modern Standard Arabic language.
  • Lectures and seminars in the areas of Moroccan education, history, religion, culture, economy, immigration, art and sciences.
  • Educational site visits to various institutions (private and public, urban and rural, religious and secular) in the cities of Rabat, Casablanca, Ifrane, Meknes, Volubilis, Midelt, and Fez.
  • US and Moroccan educator-to-educator discussions.
  • Homestay opportunity in Fes to gain deeper insight and understanding of Moroccan lifestyle.  
  • Development and distribution of curriculum projects to local school districts.
  • Opportunity to engage in digital field ethnography to practice the art of “thick” description and engage in a deep critical reflection on matters of identity, society, and culture.
  • Maintaining a blog during the stay in Morocco.
  • International airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, meals, educational and cultural activities covered by the Fulbright-Hays award.
