Dr. Daniel J. May, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Daniel J. May was named Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of New Haven effective May 13, 2013. Previously, he was vice president for academic affairs at the University of Findlay in Ohio, where he had worked since 1991. He began at Findlay as assistant professor of geology, rising to full professor in 2001. Dr. May chaired programs in environmental, safety and occupational health management prior to becoming dean of the university's College of Sciences in 2003. He was named vice president for academic affairs at Findlay in 2004. Under May’s leadership, Findlay grew its enrollment steadily by adding innovative undergraduate majors, professional graduate programs, online delivery of courses, and a variety of continuing education and consulting services. His efforts helped Findlay’s reputation to grow regionally and nationally. Prior to joining Findlay, May served on the faculty at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, from 1986 to 1989 and at Bowling Green State University in 1990-91. May earned his bachelor’s degree in geology at Stanford University and a Ph.D. in geology at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
