Get off to a good start.
In a matter of weeks you go from assured high-school senior to new kid on campus. That’s one huge transition — exciting, challenging and yes, a bit intimidating at first. Not to worry. We help make this a positive and confidence-building time for you with Freshman Experience Seminars. A one-credit, team-taught courses with an experienced student and faculty/staff instructor in your first semester, the FE001 seminar offers interesting topics such as:
- Leaving your legacy at college
- Managing your new responsibilities as a college student
- Studying abroad
- Exploring major and career choices
- Building your personal brand
- Exploring the history of the Titanic
- Connecting with the UNH community
- Studying street theater and performance art
The format is friendly and low-pressure — small classes where you’re an individual instead of a face in the crowd, group discussions and problem solving, plus a healthy dose of experiential and collaborative learning opportunities that get you out into the surrounding community.
You’ll get to know your teachers and fellow students and develop connections that will see you through your entire time here at UNH. You’ll develop valuable communication and critical thinking skills, too. By the time you’re finished, you’ll be completely at home here, and high school will be a fond memory!
No wonder we make the course mandatory!
Get Engaged!
In addition to our Freshman Experience Seminars, UNH offers you and all first-year students an opportunity to engage in student-driven activities with members of our faculty and staff. Through our non-credit Faculty Engagement Labs you can get to know us outside of the classroom and office. Need a mentor? Want to just talk and share experiences? Get involved in a project with us? Here’s your chance!
