Pre-Professional Tracks

Pre-Professional Track

Many of UNH’s undergraduate degrees are excellent preparation for professional careers, as they cover the disciplines required for the professions.

But you can take that preparation a step further by supplementing your major with one of our pre-professional programs.  As you consider your professional and graduate study options, you’ll get personal guidance from a UNH advisor who will steer you to the courses that dovetail with your chosen profession.  Our advisors are also a wellspring of information on the requirements of specific schools, which can considerably smooth the application process for you.

  1. Law

    Pre-Professional Track - Law

    Pre-Law Program

The Association of American Law Schools encourages prospective law students to major in an area that develops their comprehension, verbal expression, critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and analytical ability. All of these attributes are critical components for graduate study as well.

Accounting, Management, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Fire Science, English, History, Psychology, Political Science, Global Studies, Legal Studies, and Music Industry are all majors that fit the bill, as are any number of others.  The most important thing, though, is to choose a major that interests you, as you’ll naturally tend to be more motivated and able to perform your best in an area that stimulates your mind.

Our pre-professional advisors will get to know you and your aspirations and work with you to craft an academic strategy that makes the most of your abilities.  They’ll provide support, answer your questions about the field of law, and show how you can combine your academic interests with a law-related career. They are also well versed in law school admission requirements, application procedures, and curricula.

Applying to law school is a competitive process, one that students should begin preparing for during their undergraduate years. Our program will help you every step of the way.

Together, UNH and the pre-professional advising program will do everything possible to put you firmly on the path toward future success in the legal field.

  2. Health Professions

    Pre-Professional Track - Health Professions

    Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Veterinary Medicine

Are you interested in a field related to health, such as dentistry, medicine, or veterinary medicine? The health professions pre-professional program at UNH will recommend a course of studies that provides you with a comprehensive curriculum and the educational background needed to meet the entrance requirements of professional schools, including schools of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and optometry.

If you’d like to attend medical or dental school, it’s important to understand that the process begins years prior to entrance. Competition is high, and many factors are considered in the admissions process, including academic achievement, course of studies, standardized tests, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and recommendations from professors.  Also, medical schools look for students who have a strong understanding of, and commitment to, the medical profession.

Our pre-professional program will help you add these dimensions to your academic profile.  In addition to the regular coursework, the program also offers many health-related and research-based opportunities to qualified students.   This type of experience makes you a stronger, more attractive candidate for professional and graduate schools.

Students from many different majors gain admission to graduate study in the medical and health professions. However, you must successfully complete a minimum number of specific undergraduate courses in English, chemistry, biology, and physics.  You’ll learn about these requirements when you work with your pre-professional advisor, making your academic path at UNH much clearer.

With our advisors, outcome is everything — and that means your successful admission to post-graduate study and a brilliant career after that.
