Classes for ESUMS Students

The University of New Haven is proud to partner with the Engineering & Science University Magnet School to offer qualified ESUMS students the opportunity to take University of New Haven college courses free of charge! The pre-college program, Segue to Education Program or STEP, allows eligible high school students from ESUMS the chance to earn college credit, interact with University of New Haven students and faculty and more!

Participation in the STEP program is coordinated by the University's Office of Undergraduate Admission with support from the ESUMS Independent Study and Seminar Program (ISSP) Coordinator. Admittance to the program is based on a full application and interview process, and decisions are determined by the University. Space in the STEP program is limited and competitive. Course assignment is based on space availability at the University and course placement is determined by the University of New Haven. Participating students are permitted to be enrolled in a maximum of one class per semester, and continuation in the program is not guaranteed.

While the cost of the class is free, students are responsible for the purchase of the required text book, course materials and possible class lab fees. Students are also responsible for coordinating their own transportation both to and from campus for class. Students accepted into STEP must attend a mandatory on-campus orientation program in order to participate.

ESUMS students who are interested in the STEP program should visit the ISSP coordinator at ESUMS to learn more about program requirements and applying!
