Our dietetic internship (DI or IP) is an individualized, often one-on-one, supervised practice experience providing a minimum of 1200 hours of onsite experience monitored by a registered dietitian or individual receiving guidance from a registered dietitian. Experiences are designed to fulfill required competencies established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Successful completion of supervised practice results in a Verification Statement from the Dietetic Internship Director authorizing eligibility to sit for the national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Successful passage of this exam confers the title Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
Dietetic interns will be in clinical, wellness, and community settings while earning 9 graduate credits towards the M.S. Human Nutrition degree.
Following graduation from the Dietetic Internship, the dietetic interns can complete the remaining 24 credits (of the required 33 credit hours) at the UNH main campus. Click to learn more about our M.S. Human Nutrition Program.
