The mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to educate leaders who solve tomorrow’s problems.
We are committed to educate leaders who understand (through knowledge), solve (through critical thinking), communicate (orally and in writing), and execute (through experiential education).
The College of Arts and Sciences offers students essential foundations in the visual arts, music and theater, literature languages, mathematics, and the natural and social sciences. The College is also home to many degree programs that can launch you directly into your career. For instance, Music, Art & Design, Health, and theater are among the College’s programs that have career-oriented concentrations.
In all of our programs, highly qualified professors are deeply committed to real-life
learning. We know that students' intellectual development and sense of fulfillment
are achieved not only in the classroom but also on campus and in the community. Many
of the College’s students work with faculty on their research and scholarship or undertake
internships as part of their program of study. The College also offers popular two-week
study abroad trips for academic credit to destinations including China, England, France,
Honduras, Italy, Romania, and Russia.
The College adds to New Haven's vibrant cultural environment. New Haven is a region with major libraries, museums, galleries, and superb theaters. The Seton Gallery, a well-established University art gallery, offers a wide variety of renowned artists and sculptors with shows throughout the academic year in addition to a permanent collection featuring the art of Papua New Guinea. For students, staff, and faculty, the College has developed Arts@Noon events which, several times each semester, feature University of New Haven talent in poetry, theater, music, dance, and film. Through Arts@Night, the College presents entertainment events on campus for the University of New Haven and public attendance, with performances in various musical styles, comedy, and dance.
