Diana Atwood headshotDiana Atwood Johnson is an accomplished artist, dedicated community advocate and distinguished business owner. She was a member of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts Board of Trustees for 33 years, serving as chair from 1996 to 2003, a period during which the college became accredited and opened a new academic center. She also served as chair from 2010 to 2013 and is now chair emerita.

Atwood Johnson opened the Old Lyme Inn in 1976 and operated it for 25 years. She was the founder and past chair of the Mystic Coast and Country Travel and Leisure Council. Additionally, she is a former director of the Connecticut Restaurant Association and a past director at INNCOM International, a provider of energy management systems for hotels and motels worldwide.

She has served on the board of several banks, including as a founding director of the Maritime Bank and Trust Company in Essex, Connecticut, and vice chair of the board. She was a member of the advisory board of Webster Bank when it acquired Maritime Bank and is a former director of the Bank of Southeastern Connecticut.

In 2011, Atwood Johnson was named Old Lyme’s Citizen of the Year for her advocacy work on behalf of the arts and the environment. She is chair of both the Old Lyme Open Space Commission and the State of Connecticut Natural Heritage, Open Space and Watershed Review Board. She also is a director of the Trust for Public Land, a member of the Connecticut Land Conservation Council and advisor to the Lyme-Old Lyme Educational Foundation. 

An Old Lyme, Connecticut, native, Atwood Johnson, an avid birder and accomplished photographer, is a past recipient of the Connecticut Commission on the Arts’ Distinguished Advocate for the Arts Award. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Skidmore College.
