The Chemical Engineering Laboratory is used in several junior and senior chemical engineering courses like Process Control, Chemical Engineering Laboratory, and Senior Design. The Laboratory houses several different pilot scale chemical engineering systems including a Double Effect Evaporator, a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger, a Gas Absorption Tower and a Distillation column. In the Chemical Engineering laboratory course students run these units with LabView programs that they design as part of their coursework. In the Chemical Engineering program students will also gain modeling skills in engineering programs such as COMSOL, Chemcad, Matlab, and Minitab.
In addition to the chemical engineering process equipment, students also have access to our analytical laboratory and to equipment like Gas or Liquid Chromatography (GCMS, LCMS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and materials characterization techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Chemical Instrumentation is a potential course for students in Chemical Engineering who wish to further develop their analytical skills.
