I welcome you on behalf of the faculty and staff at the Tagliatela College of Engineering (TCoE). We take pride in providing our students a well-balanced mix of hands-on education with a strong theoretical foundation that allows graduates to function effectively and confidently in the workplace. Our graduates are highly sought after and known by employers to be work-ready. Our curricula in core engineering and applied science disciplines, combined with strong interdisciplinary coursework, internships in the field, extracurricular activities, and research opportunities, enable our graduates to remain a step ahead of the competition in today's crowded job market.
TCoE is the only private engineering college in the state of Connecticut that offers six nationally accredited engineering and applied science programs (chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering, and computer science).
The buzz is out there beyond Connecticut too as more than half of our incoming freshmen come from out-of-state. We also serve a significant number of international and multicultural students.
Let me highlight a few of our strengths:
- Our curricula expose students to real-world problem solving and decision making using state-of-the-art technology and integrated laboratory experiences. In our hands-on classes students learn theory in the context of working on projects.
- At the TCoE students find a personalized environment with small classes where our faculty will get to know them as individuals.
- Students juggling work schedules and personal obligations can take advantage of evening classes.
- In our freshman Living Learning Community engineering students reside on the same floor of a residence hall, take classes together, and bond with each other.
- Freshmen have the opportunity to study abroad at the UNH campus in Prato, Italy in the fall at the cost of UNH tuition, room and board plus airfare. This is an unparalleled opportunity, especially because engineering study abroad programs are rare. The Prato cohort is a living learning community abroad.
- Our Project to Integrate Technical Communication Habits develops technical communication skills, which are highly valued by employers.
- Through our membership in the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network students have opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial thinking skills.
- Students in most majors have the opportunity to specialize in modern and socially relevant technical areas such as renewable energy, sustainability, wireless communications, and cyber forensics.
- Engineering students do mandatory internships, providing them with real-world experience.
- In our two-semester long senior design projects, many sponsored by companies, engineering students develop team-based solutions to real-world problems.
- Through our partnership with the New Haven Engineering and Science University Magnet School students have the opportunity to mentor middle and high school students in mathematics, science and engineering.
