WHAT: Lecture/talk on the publishing industry and what editors are looking for.  Learn about the publishing industry and careers for creative writing majors. This lecture will focus on how to submit a manuscript to journals, magazines, and book publishers. The talk will cover writing the cover letter,  when it’s time to get an agent; keeping submissions straight, choosing a publisher, how to deal with the first book contract and what to expect after the book is published.

WHO: Parneshia Jones, sales and subsidiary rights manager and poetry editor for Northwestern University Press.  She studied creative writing at Chicago State University, earned an MFA from Spalding University, and studied publishing at Yale University. She is completing her first collection of poetry, “Waiting for Hurricanes.”
