Paul Murphy, features Paul Murphy

WHAT:

The Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program will present a lecture on project management by Paul Murphy and Michael O'Keefe. Traditional project management tools such as Ghant charts and project resource software can be important to the success of a project but a successful approach to project management requires a “lean” mindset to generate real value for an organization. Through lessons learned, Murphy and O'Keefe will focus on highlighting ingredients and structures needed to develop a sustainable world class project management culture within a company.

WHO:

Paul Murphy is director of operations and Michael O’Keefe is product manager at Electri-Cable Assemblies.

Murphy earned a degree in Production Engineering from the University of Limerick, Ireland in 1988 and a Masters in business management from Quinnipiac University in 2000. He has spent his career working for manufacturing based companies in several senior management positions, including Sales, Engineering and Plant management. He also launched 2 companies, one a lean consulting company and the other a lean software based company. He has earned a reputation for his expertise in lean manufacturing deployment, especially focused on leveraging the cultural aspect of rapid lean transformations. This lean experience has provided him with a unique perspective on the trials and tribulations of running and managing all types of projects.

During his tenure as Operations Director, two of the companies have received national awards for manufacturing excellence. Habco was the recipient of the Association for Manufacturing excellence (AME) North east region award in 2010.

HID North Haven was awarded the prestigious Shingo Bronze medallion in 2008 and Silver in 2009. Business Week described the Shingo prize as the Nobel prize for manufacturing. These honors are presented to a handful of companies across the Americas each year that have demonstrated a culture where principles of operational excellence are deeply embedded into the thinking and behavior of all leaders, managers, and associates.
