During his graduate studies, Lucas developed a literacy program at a local shelter for individuals experiencing displacement. He has since worked in the New Haven Public Schools for 7 years, where he gained valuable experience in school-based speech-language pathology. Additionally, Lucas has collaborated with Autism Services and Resources of Connecticut (ASRC) to create social groups and life skills programming for young adults with Autism and coordinates a speech pathology program at Sensation Station, a pediatric therapy and wellness center in Guilford, CT.
Lucas specializes in Autism, perceptions of disability, early childhood language and literacy, Alternative and Augmentative Communication, and school-based issues.
