About Susan
Susan Higgins has over 35 years of experience in occupational therapy practice, and OT & OTA education, with expertise in mental health occupational therapy and fieldwork education. She received the prestigious “Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association” (FAOTA) award in 2019 for her dedication to mental health practice and innovation in student fieldwork education. Susan has published and presented nationally and internationally on the Cognitive Disabilities Model, Sensory Modulation in Mental Health, innovative fieldwork, and the future of fieldwork education. Areas of service include current and past board member positions on the Allen Cognitive Network, the New England Occupational Therapy Education Council, the Rhode Island Occupational Therapy Association, and Oknooshoon, a non-profit organization bringing animal assisted interventions to the people of Armenia.
