Career and life readiness are achieved when students demonstrate core competencies to help them successfully pursue career and life goals. The Career Development Center works with students to articulate critical skills that employers value through resume development, interview training, and direct networking with employer and alumni partners at career fairs, in the classroom, and across the community. Student career readiness at the University of New Haven is integrative and connected to academic experience through internships, academic research, class projects, capstones, and other hands-on curricular experiences. The Division of Student Affairs has three programs that enhance students’ life and career readiness skills:

The Center for Student Engagement, Leadership, and Orientation (CSE) fosters campus community through programs, resources, and opportunities for involvement inside and outside of the university community. Students can get involved in various kinds of opportunities such as Recognized Student Organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and civic engagement opportunities. CELSO also services our commuter and off-campus students. Students are encouraged to visit the Involvement Fair during the first week of the Fall and Spring semesters to learn more about all the opportunities we offer.

Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of New Haven is dedicated to enhancing the personal development of its members by engaging them in social Greek-letter fraternities and sororities. FSL letter organizations are members of local organizations, the National Interfraternity Conference (NIC), National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and Independent Greek Council (IGC). The Accessibility Resources Center (ARC) provides comprehensive support and a range of services that serve to promote educational equity and ensure that students can participate in the opportunities available at the University of New Haven. To utilize reasonable accommodations for academics, modifications to housing and/or dining accommodations, students should review infomation online at newhaven.edu/accessibilityresources. Students should submit their request by July 1st.

At ChargerREC we support student well-being by providing opportunities for stress relief, social connections, skill building, and play. You’ll find a variety of options for staying active, including drop-in informal recreation on courts, equipment for strength training, cardio machines, and an indoor track. Additionally, we offer GroupX fitness classes, special events, and collaborative programs with other student service offices to help students feel better and have the energy to succeed in the classroom. To get started, students must activate a membership and bring their student ID card whenever they plan to use the facility or attend programs.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free, confidential consultation and counseling for a variety of mental health concerns. The Center is staffed by licensed clinical staff who provide confidential individual and group therapy and 24/7 crisis intervention. CAPS works closely with the Student Health Center on student mental health concerns and with external community- based organizations for psychiatric services. Students’ insurance is required for students seeking off-campus services campus.

The Nicholson Health Center offers initial care and diagnosis of minor injuries and illnesses, as well as referral and follow-up care options for more serious conditions. The health center also provides care and counseling on preventive health matters. The health center is open Monday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Tuesday – Thursday from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Students can schedule an appointment by calling (203) 932-7079 or using MyChartPLUS. Insurance is billed for services received at the health center. Students who are from out of state should verify with their insurance carrier that their insurance will be accepted in the state of Connecticut.

The Myatt Center for Diversity and Inclusion is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and supportive community that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion. Office of Military & Veteran Affairs

The University of New Haven was recently ranked one of the Best Colleges for Veterans” by US News & World Report, a Top 10 Military Friendly School, and a Military Times “Best for Vets” school. Our dedicated team consisting of both full-time staff and VA Work Study students will assist, guide, and lead nontraditional military and veteran students throughout their academic careers on campus. Our VA Work Study students assist in the duties of the Military & Veteran Services Team and act as liaisons for the student population and our Services Team.

USEFUL APPS

Academics

CANVAS is a computer-based platform where faculty and staff conduct classes, share information, and establish classrooms where students share information and upload assignments, take tests, etc. Visit myCharger Portal at mycharger.newhaven.edu and selecting Canvas from the icons on the top of the page. Specific instructions on logging into Canvas are provided in the account letter provided to each student.

MICROSOFT AUTHENTICATOR is a free mobile app from Microsoft that provides a secure way to sign in to your accounts, offering features like multi-factor authentication, passwordless sign-in, and password autofill. It's used to verify your identity when accessing various Microsoft services and other online accounts.

Adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step beyond your password, often using a code generated by the app or a push notification.

TRANSACT/EACCOUNTS is used for multiple things including checking account balances.

Appointments

NAVIGATE is a mobile app that can help you explore the right major, navigate resources from financial aid to dining halls, andstay on top of important dates and deadlines.

MyChartPLUS can keep track of your medications, test results, upcoming appointments, medical bills, price estimates, and more all in one place, even if you’ve been seen at multiple healthcare organizations.

TAO by UpLift includes over 150 effective, educational sessions covering over 50 topics and skills related to wellbeing including mental health, physical health, finances, and social well-being. You can access interactive sessions, mindfulness exercises, and practice tools all aimed at helping you achieve your individual goals.

HANDSHAKE is a mobile app that can help you make career moves with the people, support, inspo, and info to get ahead and get hired.

Campus Safety

LIVESAFE gives a fast and direct connection to the University of New Haven Police Department, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Not just for emergencies, the app can help you — and us — be more proactive in keeping everyone in our community safe.

CORQ can help you stay up to date with all of the upcoming campus events. Make sure to check your email every Thursday for Charlie’s Events Roundup, which features the week’s events on campus.
