SURF: Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships

The SURF program, one of several faculty-mentored research opportunities within Experiential Education, provides opportunities for University of New Haven undergraduates from any major to conduct in-depth, hands-on research under the mentorship of a faculty member. Participants gain experience in a range of areas including project planning, budget management, branding research, responsible conduct in research, addressing challenges and enjoying successes. SURF students form a community of student researchers, learning from each other and faculty mentors, through group activities, seminars and dissemination of research results.

Students receive a summer stipend, supply budget, and optional free on-campus housing during the term of SURF.  In addition to being a tremendous learning opportunity that has a positive impact on academic endeavors in many areas, SURF students have found their experiences to be valuable for other competitive fellowships, graduate school, and careers.

When launched in 2007 there were 14 participants accepted into the program.  This number has consistently risen, peaking by Summer 2015 with 50 participants representing a range of majors from each of the colleges.  Through a competitive application process more than 240 students have participated in SURF since its inception.

The SURF program appreciates support from our generous donors.
