Students in the Interior Design program at the University of New Haven have the opportunity to meet the Experiential Education graduation requirement through enrollment in ID598 Internship for Interior Design and Allied Fields.
Integrating the National Society for Experiential Education’s Eight Principles of Good Practice for All Experiential Learning Activities, the internship process provides students with a goal oriented focus in the selection of their site placement. Education, Career and Personal values, financial needs, and skill levels are explored in detail providing the student, the mentor and the firm with a well matched experience.
Students have recently been placed in the following firms:
|Arlene Angard Designs||Ann Henderson Interiors|
|ATL Environments, LLC||Interior Indulgences|
|Linda Blair Interiors||Moda Cucina|
|Kellie Burke Interiors||Now Interior Design Studios|
|CAMA, Inc.||RMD Interiors, LLC|
|CHIC Redesign||Shelter Interiors, LLC|
|Catherine Cleare Interiors, LLC||Kate Singer Home, LTD|
|Judy Cook Interiors, LLC||Transitional Interiors|
|D2 Interieurs||Twice As Nice Interiors|
|Kim DePole Design||Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors|
|FX Design, Inc.|
On site, students maintain a weekly reflective e-journal with their instructor where
questions and comments about the experience can be explored from an academic perspective.
Evaluations from the student including reflective summaries and the mentor at midterm
and at the end of the experience provide valuable feedback on multiple levels such
as design and technical skill advancement, communication and interpersonal skills,
and organizational and business skills. The internship experience comes full circle
back to the classroom setting where interns share their experiences through directed
digital presentations. These presentations provide the inspiration and documentation
for other students as they prepare to meet their interior design goals.
