New Haven Register, October 2, 2011: Twenty-six homicides have occurred in New Haven so far in 2011, the most since 1994. John DeCarlo, associate professor of criminal justice at UNH, said these violent crimes are being committed by a small group of violent offenders — less than one half of 1 percent of the population.
