The Catholic Review, November 5, 2011: Former UNH president and former congressman Lawrence DeNardis joined several dozen academics, diplomats and other prominent Catholics in a statement saying that comments on the religious affiliation of presidential candidates have no place in American political campaigns. The impetus to issue the statement arose from comments made in early October at the Values Voter Summit in Washington by the Rev. Robert Jeffress, who told reporters that Mormonism is a “cult,” and that presidential candidate Mitt Romney was not a Christian.
