The University of New Haven will host a fundraising dinner to honor the memory of Jessica N. Santos, a student from Tarrytown, N.Y. who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Yonkers, N.Y. on Aug. 27, 2006, a day before she was to begin her sophomore year at UNH. The event will help raise funds to aid students pursuing degrees in criminal justice and forensic science and also marks UNH's annual observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
UNH students may reserve tickets at a special price of $10 by contacting email@example.com. Faculty, staff and guests may reserve tickets for $20 by contacting Noel Sardalla at firstname.lastname@example.org or Paula Mortali at email@example.com.
UNH Associate Professor of Fire Sciences and University Chaplain Martin O'Connor will preside over a brief ceremony, and Jessica's mother, Gisela Marin, will speak about Jessica's life and legacy. The event is a collaboration between the UNH Victimology Club and UNH Hospitality & Tourism students, with special thanks to UNH Board of Governors member Jeffery Hazell.
