Caterina in the Big City (2003) [in Italian]
Twelve-year-old Caterina is torn between two cliques: one led by Margherita, the Bohemian daughter of leftist intellectuals, and the other headed by the preppy Daniela, daughter of one of Berlusconi's ministers. In Rome, Caterina must navigate a new city, a new school, new friends, the onset of puberty and the crossfire politics of wealth, class, and ideology - as well as her profoundly unhappy parents. What hope is there for someone who doesn't play the game? Directed by Paolo Virzi. 5pm, Gehring 301, 106 mins.
