Congratulations and Welcome to the University of New Haven!

Orientation is hosted at the beginning of each term for new graduate and international students. The program provides students with an overview of the services and resources available to them at the University of New Haven, a demonstration of how to navigate the school's online systems, information on where to obtain your University of New Haven Campus Card ID and parking permit and, most importantly, the opportunity to meet other students new to the program.

The Office of Graduate and International Student Life (OGISL) is the primary resource for graduate and international students at the University of New Haven. As a UNewHaven student, you have access to many support services. The office provides personal support, including navigating campus life and adapting to student life in the United States. The OGISL staff can also help you communicate with support services if you encounter cultural or language barriers. All below information and schedule content is subject to change.

New International Student Airport Arrival

An email was sent out to all new international students by the Enrollment department explaining this process in detail. If you did not receive this email please contact Colby Thammavongsa at CThammavongsa@newhaven.edu.

Airport pickups will begin January, 9 - 17, 2022 for international students at JFK International Airport ONLY.

If you are arriving ONLY to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York between January 9th, 2022, and January 17th, 2022 please read and follow these instructions:

  • Register your arrival a minimum of 72 hours in advance.
  • Once you get off the plane, obtain your luggage and follow signs for the Air Train.
  • Take the Air Train to Terminal 5/the TWA Hotel. The Air Train is free if you get off here.
  • Once you are at the TWA Hotel, follow signs for the University of New Haven International Student Arrival Center which is located in the “Superlatives of Villains and Legends Room”.
  • Check in with the University staff on site who will be there to assist you.
  • Once you are checked in, feel free to relax and wait for the shuttle that will be taking groups of students to campus. There will be two shuttles per day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, and times may vary based on student arrival time.
  • The shuttle will drop you off at The German Club on campus, where a myriad of University staff at the Welcome Center will be to assist you with questions about registration, finances, health services, etc.
  • Once you have checked in on campus in the welcome center and are all set, there will be a taxi through Metro Taxi that can take you to your final destination (your apartment, a hotel, etc.). The University does not cover the cost of these, and the cost must be paid by the student.

If you are arriving to the United States BEFORE January 9th, 2022 or AFTER January 17th, 2022 please read and follow the instructions below:

  • You may use the following link to book a discounted ride to your final destination through Go Airport Shuttles: UNH Intl Student Ground Transportation Portal Winter '22. The ride will cost you $59.
  • Go Airport recommends booking a minimum of three days in advance if possible.
  • This discounted rate is only offered for students coming into John F. Kennedy Airport.

Please contact the Office of Graduate and International Student Life if you have any questions about what to do once you arrive to the United States via phone or email. Please be advised our office will be closed for the winter holidays starting on December 24th, 2021 and will not re-open until January 3rd, 2022. The best way to contact our office while we are closed is to email ogisl@newhaven.edu, as somebody will be checking this email twice per day.

If you have questions about Visas, I-20s, or other paperwork, please contact University Immigration Services at UIS@newhaven.edu.

Temporary Hotel Room Accommodations

The University has a room block set up for international and graduate students at the Hampton Inn West Haven. The rate each student would be responsible for paying is $118 per night. The room block is available from January 3 - February 1, 2022.
