US 320 ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS: HUMANS, CULTURE & SUSTAINABILITY

The general aim of this course is to explore ethical, cultural and conceptual issues regarding the creation of ecologically sustainable societies. A study of the phenomenon of climate change will also be a particularly weighty element in this course. Prerequisites: One two-hundred or two one-hundred level courses in the subject area(s) of instruction. Language of Instruction: English. Credits: 3. Cross-listed as PHL 320.

SUS321 URBAN LANDSCAPES

By 2050, over 6.5 billion people will be living in cities, consuming energy, water and food, producing waste and emitting tons of greenhouse gases. Future cities will have to adjust to the ecology of their sites and develop articulated strategies with regards to pressing sustainability issues. Many urban planners,scholars,economists, politicians, and environmental thinkers see sustainable cities as an inevitable necessity and an evolutionary opportunity that is technically possible. Prerequisites: One 200 level course or two 100 level courses in the subject area(s) of instruction. Language of Instruction: English. Credits: 3.
