About Pavani

Pavani Rangachari’s interest and expertise are in health services research with an emphasis on the implementation of change and innovation in healthcare organizations. She has worked in collaboration with healthcare leaders and providers to understand factors associated with successful implementation of evidence-based infection prevention practices in hospital intensive care units and the meaningful use of Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology across inpatient and outpatient units in health systems.

Over the course of her academic career, Dr. Rangachari has received R03 and R21 research grants as Principal Investigator from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and has published several primary-authored articles in the fields of healthcare management, leadership, health informatics, and public health. Her scholarship has contributed towards the 1) identification of evidence-based management strategies for successful innovation implementation in healthcare organizations and 2) development of policy implications for enabling consistent implementation of evidence-based and patient-centered care practices to promote population health. Her research projects have also contributed towards improving healthcare practices and outcomes at her study institutions.

In addition to her work on innovation implementation in healthcare organizations, Dr. Rangachari has leveraged internal and external collaborations to develop scholarship in health disparities research, specifically, disparities in unscheduled healthcare use for childhood asthma. She has also published on various other topics relevant to healthcare management and policy, including design and implementation of telehealth services, measurement of chronic disease self-management effectiveness, social determinants of health and their relationship to death from cardiovascular disease and opioid use, and leadership and organizational resilience during COVID-19.

Dr. Rangachari’s scholarship has been recognized at a national level. She received the William H. Newman Award for “Best Paper Based on a Dissertation” from the Academy of Management (AOM) and the "Outstanding Paper Based on a Dissertation" award from the Health Care Management (HCM) Division of the AOM, in 2008, followed by the "Best-Theory-to-Practice Paper Award" from the AOM Healthcare Management Division and nomination for the "Distinguished Paper Award" from the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), in subsequent years.

While completing her doctoral studies, Dr. Rangachari also gained extensive work experience in the healthcare industry, having served in leadership roles at both a state hospital association and a community hospital. Since 2001, she has served as an elected member of the Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society. In 2019, she successfully passed the Certified in Public Health exam offered by the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE), to obtain the CPH credential.

Dr. Rangachari has also served on a variety of journal editorial boards and grant review panels for federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC/NIOSH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), and AHRQ. In 2019, she completed a four-year term as Standing Member of the Health Information Technology Research (HITR) Study Section for AHRQ. In 2021, she served as Guest Editor for a Special Issue on "Resilience and Improvisation at the Frontlines of Healthcare" for the International Journal of Public Health https://www.mdpi.com/journal/ijerph/special_issues/RIFH. She currently serves as Associate Editor for BMC Health Services Research, Associate Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Healthcare Leadership and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hospital Management and Health Policy.
