Mr. Quiello is vice president of safety, security and operational efficiency at Avelo Airlines.
Expertise
Mr. Quiello began his commercial aviation career with Delta in 1981 as a B-727 flight engineer and served in areas of increasing responsibilities during his 28 years with the airline. In the mid-1990s, he was appointed assistant chief pilot in the New York domicile and progressed to chief pilot, general manager of international operations, general manager /chief technical pilot, director of fleets and director of flight safety, before assuming the role of vice president of safety, security and environment in 2005.
He joined United Airlines in 2009, and as vice president of corporate safety he was responsible for managing all aspects of corporate safety, quality, medical and managed care.
Mr. Quiello started flying while in high school. After college, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and was designated a naval aviator after completion of flight school. He served both stateside and overseas, including a tour in the Far East aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Midway.
Quiello has flown various commercial and military aircraft, including the Grumman A-6 Intruder, McDonnell Douglas TA-4 Skyhawk, McDonnell Douglas MD-88 and Boeing 757, 767, 767-400 and 777. He is also seaplane and glider rated.
Education
A member of the University of New Haven's Board of Governors since 2012, Mr. Quiello holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of New Haven. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Florida, and a graduate of the Aviation Safety and Security Certificate Program at George Washington University. The University of New Haven awarded him an honorary Doctor of Engineering in 2016.
